Big Projects Are Vision of GNHS Athletic Booster Committee

The Knights Vision Club will host its first major event in hopes of raising funds for capital improvement projects at Grayslake North High School.

The Knights Vision Club of Grayslake North High School is planning its first major event in fundraising for capital improvement projects at the school. The Winter Gala 2013 is scheduled for February 23 at Maravela's in Fox Lake.

Knights Vision Club has Visions for the Future

The KVC was formed last year as a committee of the Athletic Booster Club of GNHS. Its purpose is to create lasting improvements to the sports facilities at the school.

"This is a group of interested parents who saw there was a need and wanted to put some time into this," said Trent Webster, member of the GNHS Booster Club.

The group has already completed one of the three projects initially targeted. A press box and equipment storage for the boys baseball field is in use. A press box for the girls softball field is set to be complete and ready for use this spring. A third project entails improving the entrance to the North football stadium by constructing a ticket booth and entranceway.

The projects are something the group feels will be a nice addition for the athletes of the school, Webster said. "We just felt this was something that maybe on their own the school would eventually get to years down the road, but we're just helping to get it done sooner."

A Community Effort

The projects slated by the KVC have been quite an undertaking and only possible with the help of the community.

Much of the construction of the baseball field press box and equipment storage was donated, including the labor, materials, lighting and electrical, and the concrete and carpentry.

Mike Gentile, chairman of the KVC and member of the Booster board said the project would normally have cost about $50,000, instead it was half the price thanks to dedicated residents who shared the vision with the club.

"This is a community thing. The folks here are wonderful and willing to be a part of this and help us out," said Gentile." I think our residents like to know they are contributing to something that will last a long time and help a lot of kids."

Registration for the Winter Gala 2013 is open through February 2 and can be done through the Boosters website. The event, which runs from 6 - 10 p.m. includes dinner and entertainment for $35 per person. A cash bar and silent auction will also be featured.
