Candidate Filing Starts Monday

Monday is the first day candidates for the April 2013 election can file nominating petitions. The deadline has been extended to Dec. 26.

Are you planning on running for Grayslake office in the April 9, 2013 elections?

Candidates can begin filing their nominating petitions beginning Monday, Dec. 17 through Wednesday, Dec. 26, the day after Christmas.

The new filing deadline was changed per Senate Bill 3338 and recently signed into law by Gov. Pat Quinn.

Village of Grayslake

Mayor Rhett Taylor's term expires in 2013 along with the terms of trustees Bruce Bassett, Amy Edwards and Shawn Vogel. Candidate petitions will be accepted Dec. 17-Dec. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the village hall at 10 S. Seymour Ave. Petitions will also be accepted Dec. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to noon and Dec. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The village is closed weekends and Dec. 25. The last day to file an objection at the Village of Grayslake is Jan. 3.

District 46

The terms of District 46 School Board Michael Carbone, Ray Millington, Keith Surroz and Karen Weinert expire in 2013. Candidates can file petitions 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except school holidays, and until 5 p.m. Dec. 26 at the district office at 565 Frederick Road.

District 127

The terms of Grayslake High School District board members Russell Chamberlain, Thomas G. Halloran and Suzanne Swanson expire in 2013. Candidates can file petitions 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 26 at the district office at GCHS, 400 N. Lake St. The office will be closed weekends Dec. 24-25. Objections to petitions can be filed 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 27-28 and Jan. 2-4.

District 50

The terms of Woodland School District 50 Board members  Catherine Campbell, Larry Gregorash, Carla Little and Joan Morris expire in 2013. Candidates can file petitions 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17-26 at the district office at 1105 N. Hunt Club Road, in Gurnee. The office will be closed weekends and Dec. 24-25.

Grayslake Library

The terms of Grayslake Area Public Library Board members Kathleen Starzec (6-year term), Kristine Mobley (6-year term), Philip S. Howe (6-year term) and Wendy Petera, who was appointed in November to fill the vacancy left by the death of Kent Rich. Candidates can file their petitions 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday Dec. 17-Dec. 26 at 100 Library Lane. The library is closed Dec. 24-25. The deadline to file objections is 5 p.m. Jan. 4. The library is closed Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

Grayslake Park District

The terms of four Grayslake Park District Board members Gayle Cinke, Steve Fabbri, George Weinert and Troy Whalen expire in 2013. Candidates can file their petitions 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17-26 at 240 Commerce Dr. The office is closed Dec. 22-25.

Avon Township

The terms of all township officials expire in 2013 including Supervisor Sam Yingling (who was elected state representative), Assessor R. Chris Ditton, Clerk Lisa Rusch, Highway Commissioner Tom Brust and Trustees Randy Evangelides, Marc Feldstein, William McNeill and Doug Williams. Candidates can file their petitions from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday from Dec. 17-26 at 433 E. Washington St., Round Lake Park. The office is closed weekends and Dec. 24-25.

College of Lake County

The 6-year terms of John W. Lumber and Barbara D. Oilschlager expire in 2013. Candidates can file their petitions 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room A107 (C-entrance) at the Grayslake campus at 19351 W. Washington St. Dec. 17-21. The office is closed Dec. 22-25. The campus is closed on Dec. 26 as well, but candidates can file using entrance C (press intercom button to announce yourself). Objections will be accepted through Jan. 4.
