The director of Golden Dragon Acrobats brings a new Chinese acrobatic show called “Cirque Ziva” to the College of Lake County on Friday, Feb. 22. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts.
Cirque Zíva was created in 2011 for a 10-week engagement at Asbury Park Boardwalk’s Paramount Theatre in New York. An instant success that earned critical acclaim and attracted packed houses, Cirque Zíva is a fast-paced, technically innovative and beautifully presented new show.
The 25 performing acrobats are athletes, actors and artists who will amaze the audience with acrobatic feats using their bodies and simple props such as plates, jugs, bicycles, umbrellas and more. The large cast and spectacular set designs illustrate the best of Asian Artists Productions, Inc.’s brand of artistic merit, high production value and solid commitment to cultural exchange.
Producer Danny Chang is one of the world’s leading promoters of Chinese acrobatics. He began training at age 8 with his family’s acrobatic school in Taipei and joined its touring wing, the Golden Dragon Acrobats, at age 10.
Cirque Zíva was created in 2011 by AAPI in coordination with renowned lighting director Tony Tucci (American Ballet Theatre’s Configurations with Mikhail Baryshnikov; Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre; 1996 Summer Olympics Cultural Olympiad).
