Students from the University of Wisconsin, Lake Forest College and Georgia Tech have been recognized for their achievements.

News from University of Wisconsin-Stout

Daniel Dressel of Lindenhurst, received the William Heller Sr. Scholarship. Dressel is majoring in Packaging.

Scholarships valued at more than $580,000 were awarded to 303 UW-Stout students this year through the Stout University Foundation at a reception on campus Sept. 13. Many of the scholarship donors personally presented the awards.

UW-Stout, Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, is a special mission university in the UW System. The university has a long-standing reputation of serving business, industry, education and the helping professions through its specialized educational programs.

Zachary Stanley, a senior accounting and information technology major, has been named a resident assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for the 2012-13 academic year.

Stanley, from Lindenhurst, joins 121 others named to this important student leadership position.

"Students selected for the RA position are simply the best of the best. They excel both academically and socially," said Trelana Daniel, an assistant director of residence life.

To hold the position, applicants must have a strong academic record and complete several interviews with their peers and faculty members.

"A position like this isn't only going to help them throughout their career at UW-Whitewater, it's going to make them ready for the professional world," said Daniel.

News from Lake Forest College

Candice Kosanke of Lindenhurst, was selected to receive a grant from the Grace Elizabeth Groner Foundation at Lake Forest College for her work at the Gorton Community Center during the fall 2012 semester. Kosanke is interning at the Gorton Community Center as an English/Communications/Media Design intern. At the Gorton Center, Kosanke is in charge of creating marketing material, updating the website, and running various reports on innovative software.

Kosanke is a graduate of Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa.

Georgia Tech Welcomes Kevin Sloan to the fall freshman class

The fall semester is underway at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Kevin Sloan, Aerospace Engineering major, of Grayslake, is part of the largest, best-qualified and most diverse freshman class in the Institute's history, according to Georgia Tech President G.P. "Bud" Peterson.
