What's on the list?

The Grayslake District 46 Board's discussion about budget cuts is expected to continue tonight, with topics like "elimination of after-school activities" and further reductions-in-force on the board's meeting agenda.

On the list of budget cuts slated for discussion tonight are:

  • One full-time educator reduction-in-force
  • .5 physical education teacher at Frederick School
  • Complete elimination of the Spanish program (an additional .8 teacher)
  • Five media assistants
  • One special education assistant
  • Elimination of after-school activities
  • Reduction-in-force of 10 additional assistants
  • Program reductions: K-4 art and music to .25 instead of .5
  • Program elimination: K-8 art and music

The Grayslake District 46 Board voted March 20 to approve a long list of budget cuts, including the reduction of 14.5 FTE teachers and the reduction of 4 FTE special education teachers. Board Vice President Keith Surroz said at the meeting that even after the reductions, the district still had a deficit of about $790,000.

Tonight's meeting will begin at 6:30 at Grayslake Middle School.
