District 127 Hosts Annual Food Drive

Grayslake High School District 127 students and Grayslake Lions Club members aim to collect 60,000 pounds of food for area families in need.

Students from are working together with the Grayslake Lions Club to host their annual Food Drive. Last year, District 127 students collected more than 60,000 pounds of food and donated it to local families in need. 

The project is coordinated by the student council at Grayslake Central, in conjunction with the and the public service practicum classes at both schools.

Students and teachers will deliver fliers and empty bags to area residents this week until Nov. 14. They will return to collect donations from residents between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.

Area residents are asked to assist District 127 students with this important project. All donations remain in the local community that is served by Grayslake North and Central High Schools.

  • Today through Monday, Nov. 14: Students from both Grayslake Central and Grayslake North will deliver fliers and empty bags to families in the district, encouraging them to leave food on their doorstep on Saturday, Nov. 19.
  • Saturday, Nov. 19:  Students from both Grayslake Central and Grayslake North will return to pick up donations. Residents also may bring donations directly to Grayslake Central or Grayslake North High Schools.
  • Friday, Dec. 2: Students from both Grayslake Central and Grayslake North will spend the day sorting and boxing canned food.
  • Saturday, Dec. 3: The Grayslake Lions Club along with high school students will drive boxes of canned food to families in District 127. The Grayslake Lions Club also provides turkeys, potatoes, apples, and milk. Any remaining food will be donated to local food pantries.
