Four Seats On Woodland D50 Board To Be Filled In April

Nominating petitions for those interested in seeking election to one of four seats on the Woodland School District 50 Board of Education will be available starting Sept. 18.

Four four-year terms on the seven-member Board of Education for will be filled at the April 9 election. Candidates elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017.

To be eligible to serve, a school board member must be on the date of election, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, shall be a resident of the State and the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election, shall be a registered voter, shall not be a school trustee, and shall not be a child sex offender as defined in Section 11-9.3 of the Criminal Code of 1961.

Nominating petition forms for the April 9, 2013 Woodland School Board election will be available starting Sept.18. Forms may be picked up in the Office of the Board Secretary at the Woodland Educational Support Center at 1105 N. Hunt Club Road, Gurnee, on any business day between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The first day that candidates may lawfully circulate nominating petitions for signatures is Sept. 25.

A school board candidate's petition must be filed in the same office no earlier than 7:30 a.m. Dec. 17 and no later than 5 p.m. Dec. 24. Candidate names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the secretary's office.

Nominating papers may be filed by the candidate in person, by mail or by an agent representing the candidate. They consist of the following:

  • Nominating petitions signed by at least 50 registered voters residing within the district. Petitions must be securely bound together with pages numbered consecutively, and each page must carry the notarized signature of the petition circulator.
  • Statement of Candidacy Form.
  • Statement of Economic Interest, a receipt from the Lake County Clerk showing that the candidate has filed the Statement of Economic Interest for 2012.
