GCHS Soccer Player Chosen for All-American Team

Senior soccer star Philip Longenecker makes GCHS history.

Grayslake Central High School’s soccer program is proud to announce that senior Phil Longenecker, a 4-year varsity soccer starter, has been named to the 2012 NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) High School Scholar All-America Team.

Longenecker is the first soccer player in program's history to achieve this honor.

GCHS Soccer coaches Mike McCaulou and Steve Feldman released the following congratulatory statement:

Philip is one of the most well-rounded human beings we have ever had the opportunity to work with here at Grayslake. His work ethic is impeccable and we are so proud of him and his accomplishments. We know this is just the start of what is going to be an unbelievable future for Phil.

Phil comes from a great family that loves him and supports him in all of his endeavors and it shows daily. Congratulations Philip, you deserve the world!

The NSCAA All-America luncheon to honor the best amateur soccer players in the United States will be held Jan. 19 in Indianapolis. More than 1,200 attendees are expected.

The awards ceremony luncheon is held in conjunction with the 66th annual NSCAA Convention, the largest annual gathering of soccer coaches in the world.

Editor's Note: In 2010, Longenecker was one of only three Illinois athletes named to the Adidas Boys High School Scholar All-Region team, a special award handed out by the National Soccer Coaches Association.
