GCHS Soccer Scores One for Autism

The team bonded at the Autism Race at Independence Grove.

The players and coaches of soccer program took some time off the field to hit the trails for the 5K Rally for Autism Race at Independence Grove August 11. This is the fourth year the team has participated in supporting the cause. 

The teens learned a lot about giving back to the community and they all did it together as a team, said Denise Kindle with District 127. The student-athletes and coaches supported one another and more importantly supported anybody that was affected by autism by registering/running for the race.  The team cohesiveness was outstanding and the team is on its way to become a family. 

There were more than 600 runners this year in the event. Some players and a coach from GCHS placed in the race:

In the 1-14 yr old age group, the Grayslake Central Team took first, second and third place respectively:

  • 1st - Jack Battaglia - Time 20:15
  • 2nd -Ben Sizelove - Time 20:39
  • 3rd - Joey Mudd – Time 21:06

In the 15-19 yr old age group, the Grayslake Central Team took first and third place respectively:

  • 1st - Isaac Longenecker – Time 18:04
  • 3rd -John Moroney – Time 18:31

In the 25-29 yr old age group,  a Central Coach placed second:

  • 2nd – Tom Hamilton- Time 21:47
