Local Students to Compete at State Geographic Bee Friday

The College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn will host the state-level competition of the 26th annual National Geographic Bee Friday with about 100 students competing for a chance to head to Washington, D.C., in May. 

Local students who will be competing at Friday's geographic bee include: 

  • ETHAN T. HERTZLER, OAK GROVE SCHOOL IN LIBERTYVILLE
  • JACK E. NICHOLSON, HIGHLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL IN LIBERTYVILLE
  • CAROLINE E. WYGANT, OF GRAYSLAKE 
The preliminary rounds will begin at 9 a.m. and the final rounds will kick off at 12:15 p.m. at the McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage. 

The winner of Friday's competition will represent the state in the national competition May 19 to 21 in Washington, D.C., according to the National Geographic Society press release. 

The final round of the national geographic bee will be moderated by Soledad O'Brien with a $50,000 college scholarship at stake.
