Meet the Biggest Losers

The College of Lake County's Wellness club will host participants who competed on "The Biggest Loser" as part of National Public Health Week.

Jerry and Estella Hayes, a suburban Chicago couple who competed in season seven of the hit NBC TV show, “The Biggest Loser,” will share their inspirational journey to wellness at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5 in the C Wing Auditorium (Room C005) the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.

Jerry won the season seven “at home” $100,000 prize.

The event is being hosted by the CLC Wellness Club as part of its outreach to inspire personal and community wellness as part of National Public Health Week.

The Hayeses were the oldest couple participating in season seven. Jerry weighed 369 pounds when he started the show, was voted off during week two, but came back at the finale, weighing in at just 192 pounds.

By losing 177 pounds and nearly 48 percent of his body weight, Jerry lost the highest percentage of weight loss, thus winning the “at-home” prize. Estella began the show at 242 pounds, left the first week and did not return until the finale. She lost a total of 83 pounds in less than eight months.

Tickets

Advance tickets for CLC students and staff are $5; general public tickets are $10. Each ticket holder will receive a $5 Subway sandwich coupon. Tickets are sold at the Box Office in the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week of April 1-5 or by phone at (847) 543-2300. Tickets will also be for sale in the Southlake Atrium April 1-4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. and in the Grayslake campus Atrium April 1-4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during special wellness events. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Health Week

The CLC Wellness club will participate in the national theme of “Empowering Healthy Communities” April 1-4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Grayslake campus atrium. Students and staff can test their luck on the Wheel of Wellness and win edible prizes. CLC Massage therapy students will also offer chair massages on a first-come, first-serve basis.
