New Assistant Principal Named at Woodland Intermediate

Lisa West brings extensive knowledge on supporting and training teachers to the school.

Lisa West has been named the new assistant principal at Woodland Intermediate School.

"I am extremely honored to join the staff of Woodland Intermediate as their new assistant principal," said West. "The dedication to the community of this fine district is apparent, and the faculty, staff, and administrative team of the Intermediate School is top notch."

West began her career in education in 1990 after graduating from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa with a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education. She has taught kindergarten through 6th grade in Illinois as well as Texas. West also has an extensive background training teachers in various staff development classes where she developed a love for working with adult learners. While working as an educational consultant she co-authored the elementary training manual for Teachers’ Curriculum Institute, which is still used today. After receiving her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, she collaborated with teachers and administrators in Glencoe School District 35 to create a Response to Intervention manual to help teachers navigate this new initiative.

"Lisa West's background supporting and training teachers will be an asset to the district," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joy A. Swoboda. "I'm confident she will bring a wealth of knowledge to our leadership team that will benefit the staff and our learning community."

"Lisa's extensive knowledge of intermediate curriculum, Response to Intervention and Common Core State Standards is a depth of what will complete our administrative team at Intermediate," said Principal Michael Witkowski. She has a great sense of humor, warmth, and approachability that the students, staff, and parents will benefit from."

West, who resides in Chicago, is married to her husband Andrew. She replaces Deborah Pellettiere who was named Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning in the district last month.

"I look forward to meeting everyone, especially the families of Woodland Intermediate, so please feel free to stop by and say hello," said West. "I believe it is going to be the best school year ever."
