They won their division for the first time in school history, but the Grayslake North Knights could not get past Friday's first playoff game where they were defeated 46-27.

The Grayslake North Knights ended their hard fought 2012 season with the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division title, sending the team to its first playoff game in the school's history.

Patch blogged live from Friday's game, where the spirited GNHS fans clung tight to the old saying "It ain't over til it's over."

The dream of a state championship ended, though, as the Knights were defeated by the Niles Notre Dame Dons 46-27.

Coach Steve Wood told Patch:

"I knew it was a very tough draw for my team. Notre Dame is really good and they play in a very tough conference.  I am extremely proud of the way the knights fought back in the second half to make the game interesting. It shows the true character of everyone on the team."
