Register For D46 Foundation's Softball Tournament

Teams can now register for the Grayslake District 46 Foundation's "Home Run for Education" softball tournament on Sept. 15.

Home Run for Education is a coed 14-inch softball tournament benefiting the D46 Education Foundation. The single-elimination tournament will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15 in Central Park and continue until one team stands victorious.

Teams can register by visiting www.d46foundation.org. Mail in registration forms are available for download. Teams can also register online using PayPal.

Team Registration on or before Sept. 12 is a $400 minimum pledge. Pay in full when registering or place a 50 percent deposit of $200 and pay remainder the day of the event.

On site/day of team registration will be $40 per player and you must arrive by 9 a.m. Sept. 15. Individual registration is a $40 minimum pledge.

Team check-in begins at 9 a.m. Games begin at 9:30 a.m.

Players and spectators will enjoy music, good sportsmanship and friendly competition in support of a good cause. Lunch can be purchased from BBQ Productions of Round Lake Beach. The event will be followed by an awards ceremony at on Center Street in downtown Grayslake.

In addition to the many parents participating in this event, Eric Detweiler, the building principal from Frederick School, and several of his staff have already registered their team. Frederick students and families won’t want to miss the opportunity to watch their teachers in action. The Frederick team is being sponsored in part by SomerCor 504, Inc. SomerCor 504 is a small business real estate finance company.

Anyone who would like to make a pledge in support of these D46 staff members, can send a check with “Frederick softball team” in the memo line to: D46 Education Foundation, PO Box 7261, Grayslake, IL 60030.

Also participating in this tournament is Chic Martin, president of Chic Martin Signature Homes on Whitney Street in downtown Grayslake. Martin took the time to recruit a team that will be sponsored by Signature Homes.

Home Run for Education is open to all members of the community who are 18 years of age or older. You do not need to be a D46 parent to participate! Donations raised through Home Run for Education will help support:

  • Academic Enrichment Scholarship Fund for participation in Science Olympiad and Scholastic Bowl
  • Classroom Mini-Grants
  • D46 Destination ImagiNation
  • Hovercraft Project

Round up some friends to form a team or register on our website to be added to an at-large team. Don’t miss out on the fun. Anyone who can’t play is welcome to join us as a general volunteer or a spectator. There will be no admission charge, but donations are always welcome.

A cash prize of $600 will be awarded to the championship team and prizes will be awarded to the top fundraising team among teams raising in excess of $800. If the Frederick School team wins the tournament they will receive $600 in classroom mini-grants in lieu of a cash prize. Benefits to all teams include:

  • Tournament entry for 10-15 players
  • Voucher for one free beverage at the Vine (limitations may apply)
  • A memorable and fun experience you can be proud of, supporting our kids

Volunteers Needed

Can’t play, but still want to pitch in? We will need many volunteers to make this day a success! Tasks will include merchandise sales, raffle sales, and set up and clean up assistance. We will need volunteers from 8 a.m until 3 p.m. If you would be interested in lending a helping hand for any length of time, please contact us at d46foundation@gmail.com. Ideal shifts would be 8 a.m.-3 p.m., 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
