Sheriff's Office Presents Service Awards To Lake County Teachers

Two Lake County teachers received the Sheriff's Office Citizen Meritorious Service Awards for developing a "Choice Program" that has reached over 600 students.

Sheriff Mark Curran, Jr. presented educators Stacey Gorman, Department Chair Social Studies, and Michelle Bonadies, Social Studies, both employed in Mundelein, with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Citizen Meritorious Service Awards.

The award is presented to citizens for an act, service or achievement that significantly contributes to law-enforcement accomplishments in the field of traffic safety, crime prevention, criminal apprehension or police and community relations, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.

Gorman and Bonadies received the Citizen Meritorious Service Awards on May 17. They had invited members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Adult Corrections Division to participate in their Criminal and Civil Law classes at Mundelein High School since 2005.

The initial invitation led to 20 plus presentations and Correctional Response Team demonstrations to the classes. Over 600 students participated in the evolving “Choice Program” developed by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and adopted by Mundelein High School.

“We couldn’t have possibly reached the number of students we have without the enthusiastic support of Ms. Gorman and Ms. Bonadies," Curran stated. "They were perfect choices to receive this distinguished award.”
