Students Walk Barefoot to Raise Money for Cambodia

Grayslake Central High School students and faculty worked together for the fundraising event “Walk a mile out of my shoes” to raise money to purchase shoes for students in Cambodia.

Oftentimes, students in Cambodia struggle to get to school because they do not have shoes to protect their feet from the hot and rocky roads. Students and faculty members were given the opportunity to support something greater than themselves with any donation they desired. Those who donated at least $1 participated in a 1-mile barefoot walk during their Physical Education/Health class.

“It was incredible to see how generous our students and faculty were during this fundraiser. We raised over $1,000, which will purchase over 600 pairs of shoes for students in Cambodia,” said Bethany Russ, Life Fitness Teacher at GCHS.

Russ worked with former GCHS student and teacher Katie (Titus) Larson, ABOUTAsisa Schools foundation, the GCHS SALT committee and GCHS Life Fitness Department to organize and help with the success of the fundraiser.  Information regarding the fundraiser can be found on the following link created by Katie Titus and students in Cambodia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqqZotYRyLk&feature=youtu.be
