Test Drives Net A Profit For GNHS Booster Club

Grayslake North High School Booster Club earned $2,340 through the Drive One 4 UR School fundraiser.

Over 100 people showed up at on a blustery spring day last May to participate in the Drive One 4 UR School fundraiser held by the GNHS Athletic Booster Club.

Participants were treated to popcorn, hot chocolate, and a chance to test-drive one of Ford’s new cars. The Gurnee Ford-Lincoln Mercury located at 18834 W. Grand Avenue in Gurnee sponsored the test-driving fundraiser. Their hardworking sales force brought 10 different vehicles to North’s parking lot for participants to take for a quick test-drive. The Ford Edge seemed to be the most requested vehicle.

Each valid test-drive netted the GNHS Athletic Booster Club a $20 donation from Ford Motor Company. As a result, the Booster Club made $2,340 and President Jeff Stielow picked up their check from Gurnee Ford-Lincoln Mercury on September 12. Money earned through the fundraiser will be used to support athletics and other extracurricular groups at the high school.

The GNHS Athletic Booster Club is planning to do another Drive One 4 UR School fundraising event in the spring of 2012 and hopes to increase the number of participants now that people have seen how easy it is to participate.

Eric Detweiler, GNHS Booster Club Treasurer, commented, “Next year it will be easier to get more people to come when I can explain how quick and easy it was to come and test-drive a car.  It really only took 10 minutes of my time.”
