University Center Night on April 7 Highlights 90 Programs

Grayslake center event highlights various opportunities for its 18 member institutions. During the 2009-10 year, 3,186 students generated 6,781 registrations in 840 courses.

University Center Night will showcase the approximately 90 programs available in Grayslake, Waukegan, Great Lakes Naval Training Center or via online study.

A unique institution located in Grayslake, the University Center of Lake County is a consortium of 18 colleges and universities, rather than a single degree-granting entity. Each member institution has chosen one or more programs to offer through the University Center. Degrees are given by whichever member school is offering the students' programs, not by the University Center. During the 2009-10 academic year, 3,186 students generated 6,781 registrations in 840 courses.

The academic programs serve adult students, so they mainly run on evenings and weekends. That enables the University Center to use its  high-tech facility during the day as a conference center for local business, industry and civic organizations.

The University Center has campuses in Grayslake and Waukegan to offer students select bachelor's and graduate degrees, as well as professional development opportunities.

The Grayslake campus has a conference wing with a 100-seat auditorium with interactive video capabilities, a multi-purpose room adjacent to a catering kitchen, and an executive conference room.

More than 80 degrees and program options in business, computer science and information systems, education, engineering, health care and human services, liberal arts and sciences, library and information science, psychology, technology, and training and development are offered.

To highlight the available programs, the University Center of Lake County will host an information session on Thursday, April 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grayslake facility, 1200 University Center Drive, at the intersection of Washington Street and Lancer Lane. 

Representatives from the University Center’s 18 member institutions will be on hand to answer questions and provide further information about their programs.
Offerings include the junior/senior years of bachelor’s degrees so that students who have completed the first two years of study at the or elsewhere can remain in Lake County to complete their degrees. Numerous graduate degrees and professional development programs are also offered.

The University Center’s member institutions include: , The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, , , , Eastern Illinois University, Illinois State University, Kendall College, National-Louis University, North Park University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Olivet Nazarene University, , Southern Illinois University Carbondale, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at Springfield, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Each institution offers selected programs.
