Vince Murray Named Principal of Prairieview School

Vince Murray, former assistant principal, will replace Amanda Schoenberg as principal of Grayslake's Prairieview School beginning July 1.

Vince Murray has been named the new leader of Prairieview School in Grayslake, only its second principal in the school's history. Murray has been the assistant principal at Park School Campus.

He will take over as principal beginning July 1 as Amanda Schoenberg  leaves the position to serve as assistant superintendent at a Bloomington school district.

Murray began with the Grayslake Community Consolidated School District 46 as a seventh-grade teacher and coach at Grayslake Middle School before becoming assistant principal at Park School when the campus opened four years ago.

“It was certainly a challenge but also an honor to do so too,” Murray said of leading Park School from the first day. “It’s not often to start a school from the ground up.”

Murray said it was a natural progression to come to Prairieview and to further his career within the district where he began teaching. He said half the teachers that came to Park School Campus began at Prairieview, and so he has seen and agrees with the philosophies that work for students.

“He has shown tremendous leadership skills, and I know he will do a fine job at Prairieview," said Ellen Correll, District 46 superintendent.

Matt Melamed will come back to Park School Campus as assistant principal. Melamed has been within the district for eight years, working at Park School as a seventh- and eighth-grade history teacher and athletic director. For the last two years, he served as the district’s curriculum director.

Murray said his goal coming to Prairieview is to maintain the culture and climate that Schoenberg established when she came nine years ago. That includes continuing to raise student achievement and building on what works well such as differentiating instruction.

“I hope to empower students to take leadership roles within our building and to keep the sense of community with students and staff," he said.
