We're Off to See: Assistant Stage Manager Maria Requena

Editor's Note: Grayslake Central and North High Schools will present "The Wizard of Oz" March 14-17 in the Grayslake Central Theatre. The production will feature more than 120 students from both high schools, along with 30 first- through sixth-graders from local elementary schools. 1. What do you enjoy about being an assistant stage manager?

  • The rehearsals. They're reallly funny. Rehearsals can be long but they're also fun. Just seeing everything come together at rehearsals, you see the actors learning their lines, but you don't see everything together until tech week. Once you get the hang of it and run the show, it's really good.

2. What's your favorite song from "The Wizard of Oz"?

  • I really like the "Jitterbug" dance and "The Merry Old Land of Oz" dance, but my favorite is "Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead." The munchkins are so cute.

3. Why should people come out to see this performance?

  • Because we've worked on it really hard. It's a classic. They will enjoy it. It's really funny.
