Woodland District 50 has New Four-Year Strategic Plan

The plan focuses on student learning, financial resources, internal community, external community and technology.

A new four-year strategic plan is in place at Woodland District 50.

The plan, divided into five main objectives, has accompanying goals that are defined over the next four years: Student Learning, Financial Resources, Internal Community, External Community and Technology.

"The fact that technology is being introduced as its own goal is a reflection of its impact on our students in today's classroom," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joy A. Swoboda. "Technology over the years has defined its place with student learning and continues to evolve and change every day."

The Woodland Board of Education formally approved the district's four-year strategic plan at the April 23 Governing Board meeting.

While the final plan was approved last spring, staff and community involvement were key components behind the development of the plan. In October of 2012, over 60 people, including observers, gathered over the course of two days to serve as the first step in assisting the district with the development of a new strategic plan. Two months later, 37 people met to assist with the development of the key steps behind achieving the goals.

"The process behind establishing a new strategic plan for our district was one that involved input from all sectors of our learning community," said Board President Dr. Mark Vondracek. "Staff, parents, students and community members gathered to assist us with the critical task of looking to the future, exploring all options and defining our next steps in education. The Board of Education is deeply appreciative of the hours of time donated by these individuals. Their time, service and input was greatly valued by us all."

The vision statement, mission statement, beliefs and core values remain unchanged under the new 2013-2017 strategic plan.

Now that the goals have been established, the next steps to follow include the development of Strategic Plan subcommittees that will assist the district with the review and successful achievement of the five goals over the next several years. Should you wish to serve on a subcommittee, please contact Public Information Specialist Jennifer Bova at (847) 596-5604 or via e-mail at jbova@dist50.net. Please indicate which committee(s) you would like to serve on: Student Learning, Financial Resources, Internal Community, External Community and Technology. Meetings are expected to take place periodically throughout the school year.

"I'm proud of our district and its successes," said Swoboda. "I'm confident that this new strategic plan will help us focus on advancing our students further as take their first steps in public education and beyond."
