Woodland Middle School 8th Grader is a Scripps Spelling Bee Finalist

Congratulations to Nathan Metz, who was one of 12 finalists in last month's Scripps National Spelling Bee sectionals. He will compete in the Lake County final spelling bee on March 20.

Nathan Metz, an eighth-grader at Woodland Middle School in District 50, was one of 12 finalists in the Scripps National Spelling Bee sectionals held throughout Lake County last month.

The sectionals, co-sponsored by the Lake County Regional Office of Education and the Jelly Belly Candy Company, featured students from 125 public and non-pubic schools in Lake County.

Metz and 11 other sectional finalists will next compete in the Lake County Final Spelling Bee at the College of Lake County at 7 p.m. March 20.

One final winner will Win a trip to Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. to compete May 26 through June l. All expenses for the 7-day trip will be paid cooperatively by Lake County Regional Office of Education and the Jelly Belly Candy Company.
