Both Lacrosse Teams Off to Good Starts

Central stops Lake Zurich; North routs Vernon Hills.

So who is the best scorer in Grayslake anyway? Obviously, North's Colin Chatten is a leading contender. But votes will also go to his teammates Patrick Walker and AJ Fish.

But they also play lacrosse at Central. That's where the scorers go by the names of Nick Hermes, Kyle Engdahl and Colin Brunk.

The Rams (3-1) didn't get a spring break trip to Florida so instead stayed local. After an opening day loss to Libertyville, Coach Peter Olszewski's club has rung up three straight wins.

"We are looking forward to having a good season,'' Olszewski said. "I have some players that are doing really well. As a whole, we had 31 players on the team and depth at every position."

On Tuesday, Brunk had 4 goals and an assist as the Rams turned back 9-3. Scoring one goal each were Jake Paust, Bryan Clancy, Peter Ota, Hermes and Engdahl.

After dropping that 12-9 decision to , the Rams notched wins over Lincoln-Way 15-8 and an 11-7 win over Warren on Friday.

In the scoring department, Hermes is up to 9 goals. Engdahl now has 8 goals and a pair of hat tricks.

Also helping the Rams this year are AJ Corpuz, Quinn Haynie, Andy Dileo, Steve Moioffer, Thomas Halloran, Alex Jagla, Anthony Fontana, Sean Halloran, Tanner Hermes, Ryan DelaCruz, Nick Traske, Charlie Risinger, Jason Koziol, Jesus Guzman, Jack Gentile, Mason Smith, Mike Garza, Edwin Garcia, Jimmy Molitor, Mike Porter, Lee Brown, Nick Celeslie, Jon Sell and Jimmy Sota.

At : Chatten only scored 6 goals on Monday. He added 3 assists in the 16-2 hammering of Vernon Hills. There was a game last week in which Chatten tallied 11 goals.

In this romp, Walker had 5 goals and 2 assists. Fish checked in with 3 goals and 3 assists.

The defense stepped up with 12 saves from goalie Dylan Cotter. Also helping on the defensive end were Bryce Hermsen, Shane Pech, Kevin Carter, Josh Kortenkamp, Ben Smith and Michael DiVita.

Dave Collins play in the midfield was notable. Also standing out there were Farhan Khan, Rich Downes, Max Spencer, Joey Amsler and Zach Johnson.

On Saturday, these Knights head down to Deerfield in search of their sixth win.
