GCHS Baseball Team Gets Big Send Off to State

The Rams are headed on a "Journey to Joliet" for the state baseball semi-finals.

Fans, friends and family members gave the Grayslake Central High School baseball team a proper send off as they departed for the state baseball semi-finals.

Wearing "Journey to Joliet" T-shirts, the team received a round of applause during a community rally Thursday.

"This is the team that has exceeded expectations all year long," said Principal John Bolger.

The biggest surprise of the season was pitcher Kevin Peloza throwing a no-hitter in super-sectionals to help the Rams advance to the state semi-finals.

The Rams take on Wheaton St. Francis June 7 at 10 a.m. in Joliet.

Athletic Director Steve Gertz, shortstop Ryan Fontana, Bolger and Head Coach Troy Whalen all spoke during the rally.

"The kids had to overcome a lot and work extremely hard this year," Whalen said. "Getting to state, it's a dream come true."
