GCHS Varsity Cheerleaders Win First Place at GNHS Invitational

The squad received an all-time high score for GCHS in the Varsity Medium Division Cheer.

The Grayslake Central High School varsity cheerleaders took first place at the Grayslake North Invitational Jan. 18.

Parent Jay Hightower said the squad "had a perfect routine." The varsity cheerleaders scored an all-time high score for GCHS in the Varsity Medium Division Cheer, beating their 2013 sixth place state score by nearly two points, Hightower said.

He added that one of the squad's lead tumblers and basket toss cheerleaders, sophomore Maddie Jacobs, participated even though she recently broke her nose during practice.

"She took the floor, wearing a face mask, and still performed flawlessly, contributing to their successes," said Hightower.

The squad is coached by Kelsey Pierotti, a former GCHS cheerleader who was also a member of the cheer squad at Northern Illinois University.

"We are very proud of our cheerleaders and their coach," said Hightower.
