  Score: 1 to 14
Comments:
A much closer game than the score would indicate. The Cardinals faced a Rockies team that were good at the plate, as well as in the field. The defense of the Cardinals led to many putouts, and a sterling double-play sparked by the game-ball-winning Robert Leinnemann catching a fly ball in in right-field, and firing the ball in to double-off a Rockie baserunner at second base. The Cardinals bats were busy, with many timely hits coming with runners in scoring position.
A fun game, played well by both teams.

Great game, Cardinals hung tough all the way and, what a homer by Brendon. Our Nationals took it to them with solid hitting solid defense and, great pitching by Jeremy Rowder, Nathan Twardock, and Tony Crews to close it out. Brandon Block had 3 hits with 2 RBI's. Great job to all the Nationals for their first team win! This was a perfect example of total team effort.

What a great game today between two teams that both played extremely well.

Pitching was especially tough by both the D'Backs and the Giants holding it to a relatively low scoring game.

Each team had a couple of key hits though to get the runs that they did.

The Ginats and D'Backs ultimately ended in a 6-6 tie which saw both teams trade leads and ties several times during the game.

It is always fun to be a prt of games as close as this one.

Comments:
During Monday evening the fans got their money's worth in a well played game between the Bulls and the River Cats.  This was a well pitched game with plenty of good defense.  The River Cats began the scoring with 2 runs in the 2nd.  The Bulls came right back with 2 runs of their own on a clutch 2-bagger (2 RBI's) by Jobe Ringer.  The River Cats pushed across a run in the 3rd and the Bulls answered with 2 in the 4th to take the lead 4 - 3.  The teams went scoreless in the 5th.  The River Cats were down to their last out in the 6th when Griffin Hayes beat out an infield hit, stole 2nd and was knocked in on a clutch 2 out hit by Alex Smith to tie the game at 4.  But in the bottom of the 6th Caiden Silverberg walked, stole 2nd and scored on a game winning hit by Max Campbell.

Great game by both teams.

Comments:
450 total pitches is a lot of throwing.  This game was also remarkable because the match up between two undefeated teams ran for nearly three and one half hours. Pitching struggled with both sides only managing 9Ks.  Spectators watched cats and dogs taking a total of 41 walks. The batters were swinging at the strikes as no one was called out; in all 122 at bats. Base runners hustled 50 bases by stolen base and passed ball advances.

Steve Strong managed a one man double play with a catch and tag at first base.  As the sea dogs continued to hound ball and work the bases, the cats kept scratching their way back.  After 5 innings the score was tied, overriding the time limit and bringing up the sixth inning.  The Sea Dogs final inning had 8 hits and 6 walks yielding 13 runs and in the bottom of the inning the mud cats came back with 2 doubles and 1 walk, The game finished with Mike Costanzo on the mound, holding the mud cats at 27 as the Sea Dogs barked out 37 runs.

Comments:
GYBA Red Wings let the Sea Dogs out.

The opening pitchers both knew they were facing undefeated teams.  DJ Johnson and Kyle Przybylski worked the start of the battle.  Then Kyle Judge and Jack Spalding each worked 3 innings, the closers of Josh Piggott and Ben Carney came in with dark skies, strong winds and very cold temperatures.

This is two very well matched teams and the game was especially interesting as the lead shifted between halves.  Great efforts were made by both teams and the stats cannot do justice to the combination that made for a great game.  A special thank you to the fans that braved the weather and kept cheering on this remarkable night for weather and skills.

River Dogs rely on big sticks and lights out pitching to exact revenge from Volcanoes.

The Dawgs, licking their wounds from a tough loss on Saturday, came out firing, plating 7 runs in the opening two frames, behind sold hits by Declan Peterson(2H), Mike Andrews, torrid Anthony Bauer (4H), and Declan Delahunty and ringing two-baggers by Carter Maiden (2H) and sweet swinging Justin Buechner. Peterson was solid from the bump, limiting the  powerful Volcanoes offense to two runs over two innings. Big Dawg, Mike Andrews was even more dominating from the hill, surrendering just one hit and 0 runs over two innings.

The Volcanoes' Billy Drevlin, Dimitri Tullis, and Joey McHugh,  however, matched the Dawg aces, leashing the puppies over the final 4 innings. With the fireworks of the initial innings simmering,  the game then settled into a defensive battle, with fine plays turned in by Volcano infielders Eric Kimbel and RJ North and solid plays by Dawg outfielders Peterson and Robert McNeilly.

The Volcano bats showed life in the 5th, as mighty Jordan Speer (2H) blasted a triple to the RF fence and scored on a play at third. However, closer, Dylan Sulzer, aided by his sweet glove,  was able to defuse the Volcanic eruption, retiring the side in order in the final frame.

River Dogs break out to an early lead and hold on behind spectacular defense and lockdown relief pitching.

The River Dogs used heavy lumber to sprint out to an early lead in the opening frames. Led by Robert McNeilly (2H), Declan Delahunty (3H), Declan Peterson (2H), Mike Andrews (2H), and Anthony Bauer,  the Dawgs compiled a 7 run lead after two. The Lugnuts, however, struck back in the 3rd, plating four runs behind clutch hits by Andrew Kegel, Mario Giannini, and Carson Cerquone. The Dawgs regained momentum in the bottom of the inning, behind a triple by Delahunty and  a cluch 2-out, bases-juiced liner down the left field line by sweet swinging Justin Buechner. Dawgs hurler, Mike Andrews kept Big Mo with the home team, holding the powerful Lugnuts offense to no runs over two innings, aided in large measure by a Web-Gemmer of a snare by 3rd sacker Anthony Baurer  of a blistering line drive off the bat of Jeremy Ryno.

The grab by Bauer portended that defense would be the key to the Dawgs' success this night, as the Lugnuts' lean mean Tower of Power, Carson Cerquone, effectively muzzled the puppies, drilling holes in their bats over the final two innings. Kept in the game by their ace, the Lugnuts were able to stage a comeback in the final frame. However, after surrending two unearned runs, Dylan Sulzer closed the game, snuffing the rally on a game-ending K.

The 2011 GYBA 6th grade season opened on a cold wet night with the Mudhens beating the Lugnuts in a game that was closer than the final score of 16-3.

The Mudhens and Lugnuts were both held scoreless in the first as starting pitchers Alex Urbanik of the Mudhens and Carson Cerquone of the Lugnuts kicked off their seasons with great performances.

The Mudhens got on the board with two in the top of the second and the Lugnuts answered back with one of their own on a solid RBI single by Alex Wrobel.  The Mudhens then began to break the game open in the top of the third with four runs on three solid hits from Michael Hrycyk, Peter Brewster, and Alex Urbanik.  Urbanik's hit was a double off the left field fence and drove in two of the four runs.

Jack Fortmann followed by shutting down the Lugnuts in the bottom of the third and then the Mudhens put the game away in the bottom of the fourth with eight runs.  The Lugnuts added a couple late runs and the Mudhens scored two in the fifth for the final score.   Michael Hrycyk, Peter Brewster, and Chris Ayers all had solid pitching performances for the Mudhens.

The Bee's and Scrappers met on a windy morning at Alleghany with each team starting with 8 players to play a game that was much tighter than the score, thanks to some timely Bee's defense getting them out of several jams, including a 1-3-2 double play!  The teams featured 9 different pitchers, all showing good control and velocity.  The Bee's scored 3 runs in the 3rd and 5th innings, proving to be the difference in the game.
