North Lacrosse Has Great Weekend Behind Fish

Central's Hermes has six goals in one game despite heavy cold.

It's always a point of contention. If a parent volunteers to coach, his kid comes along to play no matter the skill level of the child. At Grayslake North, however, there is no controversy. That's because the lacrosse coach's kid can play.

Another example of this came at the Marmion Academy Cadet Challenge on Saturday. AJ Fish went home with MVP honors after his dad's team won five straight matches to win the title. Brad Fish's club beat Geneva, Marmion and West Chicago during this busy tourney.

And two of those wins came over rival Grayslake Central. The Rams also took the trip to Marmion on Saturday. The two games between Central and North were close. North tripped Central 6-4 early in the day. The two Grayslake squads met in the title game. North took this match as well. Fish had 3 goals and 4 assists in the 10-5 title win. Matt Schlagetter had a strong title match with 4 goals and 3 assists. Colin Chatten checked with a pair of goals.

Those other victories by the Knights came over Geneva (8-7), Marmion (13-2) and West Chicago (11-3).

Fish led the Knights attack with 14 goals and 14 assists. Schlagetter was next with 10 goals and 8 assists. Chatten helped out with 12 goals and 5 assists. Patrick Walker and Chris Lizotte also helped out on the offensive end.

Coach Fish noted the defensive play of Ben Smith, Shane Pech, Kevin Carter and Michael Mattea. Josh Kortenkamp and Michael DiVita earned notice for their play at the long stick midfield spot. The Knights midfield had help from Joey Amsler, Brendan Walker, David Collins, Rich Downes and Farhan Khan.

Also standing out with strong midfield play were Zach Johnson, Josh Cokefair, and Max Spencer.

Dylan Cotter and Walker saw time in goal for the winning Knights.

Recap: In action last week, the Knights had no problem in beating Notre Dame. Chatten had a six-goal day in the 21-0 romp. Fish checked in with 4 goals and 5 assists. Schlagetter had 3 goals and 3 assists. Also scoring in this game were Chris Lizotte, Dave Collins, Maxwell Spencer, Brendan Walker and Patrick Walker.

At Central: The Rams did rebound from the losses to North on Saturday. On Monday, Nick Hermes shook off a bad cold to score 6 goals in a 13-8 win over Mundelein.

"He was hacking the whole way home on the bus,'' noted Central coach Peter Olszewski. "Even with a cold, the kid is good."

Jason Koziol checked with a pair of goals. Colton Brunk notched 3 assists. Also helping the Central offense with goals were Peter Ota, Steve Moioffer, Andy Dileo and Quinn Haynie.

The Rams defense had help from Lee Brown and Jon Sell.
