Patch Cubs Turn It Around, Defeat Dodgers 12-6

The Cubs pounded out 9 hits in a much-needed win Tuesday night against the Dodgers.

After dropping a tough 10-6 game against the Brewers and getting shellacked by the surging Marlins 15-0, the slumbering lumber of the Baby Bruins came out of hibernation this past Tuesday against the feisty Dodgers.

The Cubs sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first with 7 runners coming across the plate to score. Matt Drossler, Andrew Maurice and Mark Czyzewski each drove in two runs while Kevin Price knocked in the last run of the inning with a hard groundout to first base.

"Typhoon" Tyler Marson blew the Trolley Evaders away giving up only 1 single and no runs while striking out 8 in his 3 innings of work on the bump.

Jumpin’ Jack Caldwell of the Ursine Whelps came in to toss the fourth inning and set the Tram Swervers down in order thanks to a nifty throw from the centerfielder to the shortstop cutting down a runner trying to stretch a single into a double.

The Cubbies scored three more runs in the second and two in the third to jump out to a 12-0 lead. But the Tram Jumpers were not done yet. Taking advantage of six walks and a clutch bases clearing single by Matt Rubino, the Dodgers put a 6-spot up on the board before Tyler Armstrong came in to put out the fire.

The victory placed the Cubs record at 6-7-1 for the season. The playoffs start this weekend and they play the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Jaycee North.

The coaches have been working hard and doing a great job with the kids all season. They are encouraging aggressive baserunning and are always enthusiastic and cheering the kids on. The defense has been solid and the hitting, while admittedly streaky, makes the Cubs a very dangerous team heading into the Playoffs.
