Ashley Alwin Owners Plant One on the Pig

The annual Kiwanis Club fundraiser helps raise money for high school students.

It was a lot of hubub over a five pound potbellied pig named Felix. Owned by the Wilke family of Harvard, the pig made his debut Saturday at the Kiss the Pig Fundraiser by the  and  at the Summer Days. The eight-week old swine ended up being smooched by the owners of Ashley Alwin Salon, Sara Alwin and Ashley Meier.

"He squeeled when we kissed him!" said Mier in good spirits. The team said they never thought they would be the ones to collect the most money.

Over the course of several weeks the club collected money for the five 'local celebrities' who were up for kissing the pig. This year that included Jon Cokefair, battalion chief with the ; Dave Oberg of the ; Karin Shephard, community service officer with the Grayslake Police Department; Tim Thrall from Piggly Wiggly and the owners from .

In the end almost $600 was raised, which will go towards the Kiwanis Key Clubs at each of the Grayslake high schools.
