Bike it to the Lake County Fair

The Lake County Division of Transportation has just completed the Prairie Crossing bike path, which residents can ride all the way to the fair.

The Prairie Crossing bike path along Midlothian Road will serve as a key bike path connection in central Lake County, and lead riders to the Lake County Fair.

The path was completed one and a half months ahead of schedule and offers a direct, non-motorized, transportation method to residents.

This bike path now provides a north-south regional connection, starting from the Millennium Trail along Hawley Street near Mundelein High School (south) to Prairie Crossing and the Village of Grayslake's extensive bikeway system, which provides access to the Lake County Forest Preserve District's Rollins Savannah further north.

The newly completed bike path will help residents travel to and from Grayslake, Libertyville and Mundelein. It also connects users to the Millennium Trail, two Metra commuter stations at Prairie Crossing, the Fremont Library, Mundelein High School, Barefoot Bay Family Aquatic Center and Community Park, the Lake County Fairgrounds, and to the Long Meadow Commons shopping center on Midlothian Road/IL Rte. 176.

The Prairie Crossing Bike Path was identified as a regional bicycle priority project in Lake County's 2020 Transportation Priority Plan and was funded through a combination of Congestion Mitigation Air Quality federal funds and Lake County for the local match.

The Lake County Division of Transportation has built more than 50 miles of bike paths that provide a safe and alternative travel option to residents.

Additional bike paths programmed for construction in the near future include: Along Washington Street from Atkinson Road to the College of Lake County in the Village of Grayslake; along Peterson Road from US Route 45 to west of Alleghany Road in Libertyville and Grayslake; and along Deerfield Road from IL Route 21 to Saunders Road in the Village of Riverwoods.
