Just one of the many aspects of the Lake County Fair is the midway filled with more than twenty rides for kids of all ages. Those rides are being assembled to prepare for the fair July 25-29.
DRS Skinner Amusements of Marengo has put up the rides at the Fair since its inception 84 years ago. They have forty full- and part-time employees.
"We're loyal to them and they are loyal to us," said Pat Skinner, owner of the company, which does 25 festivals and three fairs each summer, including the McHenry and Boone County Fairs.
This year at the Lake County Fair Skinner's Amusements will have 24 rides including several new ones like the Super Slide and the Baja. Skinner said they are adding rides that are family-friendly. "We want to make sure moms and dads can ride with their kids, so we're really making sure we have a good variety."
Skinner said their insurance company watches the procedures and operations during set up and the actual event. And, a safety inspector with the State of Illinois and will check each ride once they are ready.
Tickets for the rides will be available for purchase at the grounds. The Fair is a cash-only event. No credit or debit cards will be accepted.
