Special Events at the Grayslake Library

Learn about the new 'digital audiobooks' available, or twist and shout the night away at a free summer concert.

The is hosting two special events Monday, July 23.

Playaway® Day is scheduled from 3-7 p.m. to learn about the new digital audiobooks available.  Playaway® is portable - it fits in a pocket and has the grab-and-go convenience of a physical format – creating a format that makes audiobooks accessible for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

The format is popular among kids who can pair a Playaway® with the print edition of a book to improve literacy, busy moms and business travelers who enjoy catching up with the latest bestsellers while on-the-go, and seniors, including the visually impaired, who don’t have to worry about transferring content to a player or learning how to use another new piece of technology.

The library is carrying a variety of titles on Playaway®, including many selections for children, language learning programs, bestselling adult fiction, and classics.  And because Playaway’s format is friendly for listeners of all ages, every patron can enjoy the new format.

During the demonstration there will also be drawings for a chance to win a PlayAway® or Playaway View® of your very own.  Everyone who stops by will receive a free pair of Earbuds, while supplies last. No registration required.

Then, why not stay to enjoy some favorite Beatles songs with The Cavern Beat who will play at 7 p.m. on the library lawn. Bring your chairs, blankets, snacks and the whole family.

The Cavern Beat have performed all over the world and are compared to 'the jukebox' for sounding so much like the real thing! To stay true to that sound, they use vintage guitars and amplifiers in their performances-- the same brand the Beatles used. And, they dress and wear their hair in the famous Fab Four style for the full effect!

Culvers will provide free custard for concert goers, while supplies last, and you might have a chance to win free Ravinia tickets as well. No registration required.
