Stock Up on Tomatoes, Meat for the Season

Vendors at the Prairie Crossing Farmers Market have large supplies of tomatoes and sustainably raised local meat for purchase.

Stock up on late summer produce, and place your orders for locally raised meat and take the opportunity to meet the Grayslake farmers producing your food.The Prairie Crossing Farmers Market in Grayslake runs from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday afternoons through September 28 at Station Square, 970 Harris Road.

During "Tomato Daze" on September 14 and 21 shoppers can purchase ten pounds of delicious red slicer and heirloom tomatoes for only $20 (while supplies last). All tomatoes are certified organic, and are grown on-site at the Prairie Crossing Learning Farm.  

The September Farmers Markets will also feature sustainably raised local meat from two Prairie Crossing farms - Yaw-Ye Farms and Midnight Sun Organics. These farms are part of the Farm Business Development Center, a program that supports the development of successful family farm enterprises by focusing on the production and marketing of organic foods for local and regional food systems.

On September 14 and 21, Yaw-Ye Farms will sell half and whole pork CSA shares. Pigs are raised outdoors on free-range pasture, local grains, and vegetable gleanings from other Prairie Crossing farms. Further details will be available at the September 14 and 21 markets.

On September 28, Midnight Sun Organics will sell sustainably raised turkey at the Prairie Crossing Farmers Market. Midnight Sun will provide details about their turkeys, and take pre-orders and pre-payment.  Turkeys will be ready just in time for your Thanksgiving feast.
