Polar Express

This has been a crazy cold January, some of the coldest days on record.  Today, as I traveled by train into the city, in the beauty of white woods and housetops, a moment of great customer service happened.  The conductor on my car was talking with a family of three darling little girls.  He was asking them if they were going to the city for some fun.  They said, absolutely!!  Based on their ages I would guess American Girl Place in on the agenda.

Just then he pulled out an old ticket book and his hole punch and asked the girls if they wanted to see something cool.  They all in unison said YES! He began to punch, punch, punch on the book with small bits of paper flying everywhere!  I thought, “This is exactly like the movie scene in Polar Express with Tom Hanks”.  I am sure the young girls thought the same thing.  In a few minutes he said, “Are you ready?” and he opened the paper folded in two and there was a darling heart bouquet.  They were all smiles as he handed them the piece of art with a huge smile.

I thought in that moment that I love when kindness and great customer service come together.
