Things To Do This Weekend In Lake County

Weekend activities for May 17-19, 2013 in Lake County, Illinois

  1. Malott Japanese Garden Children’s Festival. Saturday, May 18 - Sunday, May 19, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Learn about children’s celebrations in Japan during this special weekend of activities. Listen to music, enjoy traditional folktales, observe a karate demonstration, and watch a tea ceremony. Kids of all ages can make projects at family friendly hands-on stations. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe.
  2. ArtWauk. 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. Saturday, May 18. Come out for an evening of art, live entertainment and more. Take a stroll down Genesee Street and visit the galleries and experience the arts revolution in Downtown Waukegan. It’s a night that shouldn’t be missed.
  3. Train Days. Saturday, May 18 – Sunday, May 19, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Lambs Farm presents, Train Days, a family friendly event for all ages to enjoy. Children can don their conductor’s hat and navigate electric trains, courtesy of Valley Models Railroad Association. The farm yard will also be open and include activities for the entire family. Lambs Farm, 14245 W Rockland Rd, Libertyville.
  4. Children's Craft Activity: Parachuting. 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, The Great Lakes Naval Museum will be hosting a free parachute-making activity for children. Kids will learn about the science behind high altitude-low opening military parachuting.  All craft supplies will be provided. Great Lakes Naval Museum, 610 Farragut Ave., Building 42, Great Lakes.
  5. 8th Annual Fox Lake Fishing Derby. Sunday, May 19 from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m, this fishing derby will take place on the entire Chain O’ Lakes and start at Port of Blarney. If you have a valid fishing license you may participate or watch as area fishermen try to catch Bass, Walleye and Catfish. Port of Blarney, 27843 W. Grass Lake Road, Antioch.
