Helping Kids See Better, One Plate at a Time

The Lions Club annual Steer Roast proves a success.

The sixteen rounds of beef that each weighed up to 90 pounds were slow cooked for more than 15 hours, then devoured by a very hungry crowd of more than 700 for the 49th annual Steer Roast Sunday.

The event at the Grayslake Middle School will help cover the cost of eye exams, eye glasses and hearing aids for children in District 46 and 127. Last year that was more than 60 exams for local students.

"This is a good blend of fundraising and community service," said Karl Molek, president of the Lions Club, as he checked in on the roasts. "This really allows us to raise the funds to return it to the community in the form of eye glasses."
