Power Outages, Downed Trees Reported Across Lake County

Did your neighborhood sustain any storm damage?

The storms that hit Lake County late Friday afternoon wreaked havoc on many communities, where power outages and uprooted trees were reported.

In Grayslake, branches and other tree debris could be seen on many roads, from Center Street west of Route 83 to the College of Lake County Campus to Durham Lane.

The National Weather Service in Chicago's list of storm reports included one about multiple trees down—some 12 inches in diameter or more—near Route 45 and Casey Road near Libertyville. The scene was even worse in Lindenhurst, where uprooted trees and downed power poles blocked roads in one subdivision.

Multiple power outages were also reported after the storms. In Grayslake, for example, nearly 2,500 people were without power after the storm. As of nearly 9 p.m. Friday, hundreds of people were still without power in Grayslake, Libertyville and many other Lake County communities, according to the ComEd power outage map.

The storms also resulted in the start of the football season being delayed at many schools. Grayslake Central's game at Fenton, along with Grayslake North's game at Lakes Community High School, were both postponed until Aug. 31.
