Police Officer Recognitions, a Summer Concert and a Traffic-Stopping Fact

What are your plans for the week?

Looking for something to do this week? You could attend the last summer concert at Independence Grove in Libertyville. Or perhaps you'd like to listen to some traditional American music at a free concert at the Grayslake Historical Society and Museum. Whatever you decide to do, have a fantastic week!

Government in Action

Ever wondered what happens at a village board meeting? Why not stop by this week's meeting, slated for 7 p.m. Aug. 6. You'll get to see the board recognize long-time police officers for their years of service (20 years for Officer Rita Stang, for example) and discuss the disposal of surplus property. The committee-of-the-whole meeting will follow the regular meeting.

The Last Concert of Summer

The Lake County Forest Preserves will hold its final concert for the season at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at Independence Grove in Libertyville. This week's entertainment will be provided by the Jack Grace Band, who will perform everything from country to Latin music. Parking is $5 per car after 5 p.m.

…But Summer Lives On

Summer may be winding down, but there's still plenty of summer to experience in town. Stop by the Grayslake Farmers Market between 3 and 7 p.m. Aug. 7. and pick up some fresh fruit, vegetables or baked goods. And at 7 p.m. Aug. 7, the Grayslake Historical Society will host the Vintage Brass Band for a free concert in the courtyard of the museum, located at 134 Hawley St. The concert will feature traditional American music, along with some ragtime.

Is this the End?

What do you know about near-Earth objects like asteroids and comets? Want to learn more? The Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake will host a program that deals with this very topic at 7 p.m. Aug. 7. Intrigued? Find out more here.

A Traffic-Stopping Fact

And now for a little history fact. On Aug. 5, 1914, the first electric traffic signal was installed, according to History. Do you know where this happened?
