One of the most popular Chicago Bears is now calling it quits, according to CBS Chicago.
Chicago Bears veteran of 13 years Brian Urlacher officially retired Wednesday morning, according to CBS Chicago. The 34-year-old linebacker says he has no regrets ending a professional career playing exclusively for the Chicago Bears. “Although I could continue playing, I’m not sure I would bring a level of performance or passion that’s up to my standards,” Urlacher told CBS news. Grayslake Central girls defeated Lakes High School at Saturday's regional soccer finals. The team takes on Lake Forest at Tuesday's sectional semi-finals.
The Grayslake Central High School girls soccer team beat Lakes Community High School 5 to 4 at Saturday's IHSA Class 2A regional finals. Grayslake North lost to Deerfield on Friday. The Rams will now face Lake Forest at the sectional semi-finals Tuesday. A win Tuesday will advance Grayslake Central to the sectional championships on May 25 at Lakes Community High School. At Saturday's regional finals, Grayslake Central bested Lakes in a 7-round shoot-out after 100 minutes with no score, reported the Lake County News-Sun, which cited goalie Kajal Chokshi as being "the ultimate hero" for her game-saving skills. Congratulations to all of the Grayslake athletes who advanced to state!
Grayslake Central and Grayslake North athletes competed at the state track and field meet May 16-18. Grayslake Central ranked 36th in the state. Here's a look at how Grayslake Central athletes performed in various events in the state finals, according to the IHSA website: Grayslake North freshman Allie O'Connell, who took first place in the 100-meter high hurdles at the Palatine Sectional, came in seventh in the preliminaries at state. Only the top three finishers qualified for the state finals.
Both teams are headed to the state playoffs.
The Knights from Grayslake North finished off the regular season with a 17-7 win over Grayslake Central and improved to 15-4 on the season with their 12th straight win. In front of a huge crowd with the help of over 150 Grayslake Youth Lacrosse League participants, North jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The defense led by Goalie Eric York, as well as first team All-Conference selection Ben Smith, were steady all night. Shane Pech, Kevin Carter, Jake Lamb and Ian Pearce were rock solid in keeping Grayslake Central off balance all night. Graylake North's Titus Booker won the 100 meter dash and Alex Shulga took the 400 meter dash at the 3A Track and Field Sectional in Buffalo Grove Thursday, May 16. It's going to be a big week for many Grayslake Central and Grayslake North athletes as they compete in regional, sectional and state events for various sports. Here's a look at the action coming up this week, according to the IHSA website: Girls Soccer Grayslake Central will face Chicago (CICS/Northtown) at 4:30 p.m. May 15 at Grayslake Central in the regional semifinals. The winner of this game will face winner of the Lakes Community High School-Chicago (Resurrection) game, which will be played at 6:30 p.m. May 15 at Grayslake Central. The regional finals are set for 11 a.m. May 18 at GCHS. The winner of the Grayslake Regional will face the winner of the Antioch Regional in the sectional semifinal at 6:30 p.m. May 21. The Knights from Grayslake North won their 10th straight game with a 15-10 win over visiting Lake Forest. Trailing 9-6 heading into the final quarter, Grayslake outscored the Scouts 9-1 over the final 12 minutes for the victory. Ben Smith scored his first goal, and it was a big one to propel North to the win. Other scorers for the Knights were Brendan Walker, Farhan Khan and AJ Fish each with 4 goals. Ben Smith, Freddie Williams and Jack Mattea also found the back of the net. Fish also dished out 3 assists, as did Mattea. Eric York rebounded for a tough second half and active Long Poles Ian Pearce, Jake Lamb and Shane Pech held Lake Forest to 2 goals in the second half. The IESA's Track and Field Meet was held last weekend in East Peoria.
Congratulations to the Park School Campus seventh-grade boys who placed first in the 4x200-meter relay at the Illinois Elementary School Association's (IESA) Track and Field Meet in East Peoria on Saturday. The athletes, who competed in the Boys Class 7A State Track Meet, won with a time of 1:48.04. Congratulations also go out to the following students for their achievements:

A number of Grayslake Central and Grayslake North runners qualified for the state track meet following the girls Grayslake Central Sectional, held May 9 and the Palatine High School Sectional, held May 10. GCHS placed second at the sectional meet with 89 points, with Lakes Community High School of Lake Villa taking first with 103 points, according to the IHSA website. GCHS senior Cara Engal took first place in the pole vault. Senior Jamie Mara took first in the 100-meter high hurdles; she also won third place in the 300-meter low hurdles. He was too old and broken to keep playing, and that was proved very true by the free agent market for him, which was next to nothing. He could have still played, but not how he wanted to.
