Chamber of Commerce 5K Race and Fun Run this Saturday

This year's event promises to be a fast-paced race, with new award categories for the fastest couple and family.

The Grayslake Area Chamber of Commerce 5K Race and Fun Run is set for Saturday, July 14 in downtown. Runners, walkers, strollers and wheelchair athletes are invited to take part in either the 5K race or the fun run. The 5K will begin at 8 am. Pre-registration is $20 and can be done online. Race-day registration is $25 and begins at 6:15am at the Grayslake Village Hall, 10 S. Seymour. The Kids Fun Run for ages five through eight will begin at 7:30 at the corner of Lake and Center Streets. Registration is $5. Participants will receive t-shirts, ribbons and refreshments. PHOTO GALLERY: Dirty Girl Mud Run

Almost 10,000 women got down and dirty at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake on June 30 and July 1 to raise money for breast cancer research.

They were covered in dirt, from their ponytails to their running shoes. And they loved it. The 9,900 women from throughout Lake, Cook and McHenrty Counties, as well as from Illinois and at least five surrounding states, jumped in, over and through the mud in the Dirty Girl Mud Run at the Lake County Fairgrounds this weekend. The 5K run is riddled with obstacles including mud pits, steep hills, hanging tires and cargo nets. The event raises money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, with 2.5% of racer's registration fees going towards the cause. Thousands Of Women Plan to Get Dirty At Lake County Fairgrounds

The Dirty Girl Mud Run, a fun and muddy 5K obstacle course race, has attracted over 7,100 women so far for the June 30 and July 1 events.

Want to get "dirty"? Join in the fun at the Dirty Girl Mud Run. The Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake will be transformed into a muddy, crazy obstacle course when the Dirty Girl Mud Run takes over on June 30 and July 1.  So far, 7,174 women have signed up for this wild 5K run through a muddied obstacle course - including ME! A record number of participants joined in the Grayslake Chamber of Commerce's recent 20th annual 5K Race & Fun Run. We caught up with some of them to see why it is such a popular event. Joanne Torogian, of Grayslake who also works as a Youth Librarian at the Grayslake Area Public Library, said, "This is the second year in a row I've participated. My first race, I was just hoping to finish; but this year, I am hoping to beat last year’s time." A group of the race volunteers - Mark, Greg, Mike, and Brent - are friends from The Chapel, a multi-site church with a Grayslake campus.
