Grayslake Police Stepping Up DUI and Seat Belt Enforcement

Now through New Year's Eve, the Grayslake Police Department will be conducting a holiday crackdown on drunk driving and stepping up seat belt enforcement.

The Grayslake Police Department has announced its plans for the 2012 Holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” crackdown. The intensified enforcement effort to combat late-night impaired driving and safety belt violations underscores the disproportionate number of traffic deaths occurring during late-night hours. The stepped up enforcement began this week and runs through New Year’s Eve. Enforcement efforts will concentrate on the deadly night time hours between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the midnight to 3 a.m. time frame is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways and 9 p.m. is the time of …

Letter to the Editor: McCutcheon's Victims

The mother whose daughter and finance were in the car hit by former Grayslake Police Chief Matt McCutcheon shares their side of the story.

It has been reported that Police Chief Matt McCutcheon of Grayslake was involved in an accident and arrested for driving while intoxicated and armed with a loaded weapon while intoxicated. While it is "claimed" that he struck a 'silver Dodge' head-on, I would like to make it clear that it is not a 'claim' but a fact. I am the Mother of that 'silver Dodge' and would like the public to know that the 'silver Dodge' held two people, my daughter and her fiance. It is also a fact that the Police Chief admitted in the police report that he had drank three martini's and a few beers and that he hade been driving the vehicle that struck Kate and Todd.   Though Mayor Rhett Taylor of Grayslake prefers to use the word "allegations" and speaks to the …

I feel terrible for everyone and hope everyone can learn forgivness.   more ›

Updated: Community Service Police Officer Struck By Bus

Traffic officer accidentally hit by a small daycare bus suffered a broken nose and fractured both wrists.

Updated 4 p.m.: "It was an truly just an unfortunate accident," said Vince Murray, principal of Prairieview School. "The police and the rescue personnel did a great job with a quick response to the scene and providing help to the Community Service Officer." Murray said that getting onto Route 120 at any time of day can be challenging. "It is a congested road and it is getting even more so," Murray said. The accident was not caused by congestion but the congestion creates the need for traffic assistance at the entrance to the school. "We are hoping that the officer has a speedy recovery," Murray said. Original Story 9:55 a.m.: A Community Service Officer directing traffic near Prairieview School was struck by a small daycare bus yesterday, …

I'm not saying it isn't still tragic that the officer got hit, hurt, hospitalized, had to have surgery, and has a long recovery ahead of her. I also hope that she recovers quickly and can go back to her normal job. What I've been saying is that I think that, had she been hit by a 14 ton school bus instead of a 3.5 - 5 ton commuter vehicle, we would, most likely, be reading about a deadly accident.   more ›

Luckily the physical injuries were minor, although emotional ones could linger. Without a doubt this was a very scary incident! Was the driver of the bus investigated to see if he/she was impaired in any way?   more ›
