CLC's Lancer Cheerleaders Make Their Debut

The College of Lake County has a new cheerleading squad.

Fifteen College of Lake County students, former rivals at high school cheerleading competitions, have formed a new Lancer Cheerleading Club, which gave its first public performance at men’s and women’s home basketball games on Jan. 17. Teresa Aguinaldo, interim executive director of Student Life, said she is excited about the revival of cheerleading at CLC after a long hiatus—the college had a pom-pom squad several years ago and an athletic department-sponsored cheerleading squad in the 1970's, 80's and 90's. “I commend the students and their advisor, Henna Kittridge, for their passion and school spirit,” Aguinaldo said. “This is a great thing!” Kittridge, an adjunct English instructor, was approached by one of her students, Lisa McCarthy…

Open Auditions for CLC's 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses'

Ten actors are needed for the cast of the stage presentation of the 18th-century French novel, which will take the stage November 9-17.

Auditions for the College of Lake County Theatre Department’s fall production of “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” (“The Dangerous Liaisons”) will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 17 and 18. Auditions will take place in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. Six women and four men age 18 and over are needed for the cast. Actors should prepare a 90-second memorized monologue from the play of their choice. Actors need only attend one audition night, and they should bring an acting resume if available. Callbacks will be held from 6:30-10 p.m. on Sept. 20. Back-to-School Activities at College of Lake County this Week

Activities are planned at all three campuses; with daily events at the Grayslake campus.

During the first week of fall semester, the College of Lake County will welcome back students at all three campuses with a variety of fun events. In addition, the public is invited to the Grayslake campus to attend a free outdoor showing of this summer’s blockbuster movie, “The Avengers,” on Friday, Aug. 24. At the Grayslake campus, the Office of Student Life has planned a week's worth of food, fun and prizes. Welcome week activities are offered for new and returning students. Grayslake campus: The Southlake Campus in Vernon Hills will welcome back students with a cookout and giveaways on Aug. 21 and 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. outside of the Atrium. CLC Leads the Way Toward Sustainability

The College of Lake County celebrates Earth Week.

How green is CLC? The College of Lake County’s Sustainability Coordinator Dara Reiff gave students an overview of green efforts on campus as well as those that reach into the Lake County community at a discussion, today, as part of the college's Earth Week events. CLC’s green efforts got a big boost with the hiring of a sustainability coordinator in 2009 and launching of the CLC Sustainability Center. Reiff explained that CLC President Jerry Weber is an advocate for sustainability and has provided leadership for the Illinois Green Economy Network, a partnership of Illinois community college districts that works to grow a green economy in Illinois.  The green effort at CLC has three branches – campus, curriculum and community.  Greening the…

CLC Show Features Cups From 55 Ceramic Artists

“The Cup: 55 Artists, 250 Interpretations,” is now running in the ARTcetera Gallery at the College of Lake County in Grayslake. The exhibit runs through April 17, and includes work by invited artists from as far away as Canada and England.

CLC's Grayslake Campus Secures $17 Million For Facelift

The Grayslake campus of College of Lake County will receive $17.6 million in capital funding for construction of a new science building and an overhaul of its current science facilities, according to a report in World Interior Design Network.
