The Grayslake Fire Department responded to a small, unintentional fire that started after the vigil for Joey Frase on the night of Tuesday, Jan. 22.
An unattended candle from Tuesday night's vigil for Joey Frase at Campbell Airport resulted in a small brush fire. Battalion Chief Jon Cokefair told Patch the Grayslake Fire Department responded to the scene with an engine at about 6:43 p.m. The fire was reported by someone at the airport. "It was an unintentional fire caused by an unattended candle." Cokefair said the incident was minor and did not affect a large area. "We extinguished it with a hose line in about a half hour." The vigil held for Grayslake's Joey Frase, whose body was found near the airport Tuesday morning after he had been reported missing Sunday, Jan. 20, began at 6 p.m. and included dozens of family and friends. Mourners gathered near Campbell Airport Tuesday, Jan. 22 to remember Joey Frase, 20, of Grayslake. Joey was reported missing after leaving a party early Sunday. His body was located during a search Tuesday morning.
Family and friends of Joseph "Joey" Frase gathered near Campbell Airport Tuesday, Jan. 22, for a candlelight vigil to honor his life and memory. Frase, 20, of Grayslake, had gone missing from a party in Round Lake's Madrona Village in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan 20. Volunteers searching in a tree line near the area of Campbell Airport in Round Lake Park Tuesday morning discovered his body. The sad news came as a shock to the community, who had rallied behind the family on a missing person Facebook page created to help find Frase. Updated, 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 From Grayslake Police Chief Phil Perlini: Today near 1035 AM, a body was discovered by volunteers searching in a tree line near the area of Campbell Airport in Round Lake Park. The body and clothing matched the description of our missing person, Joseph Frase. The Lake County Coroner’s Office and Round Lake Police Department are working to make a positive identification of the recovered body. The Round Lake Park Police Department is conducting a death investigation and further information will be available through them.
