Dr. Catherine Finger is elected to Governing Board of the American Association of School Administrators.
From the county, to the state and now the national level of education advocacy, Dr. Catherine Finger, the superintendent of Grayslake Community High School District 127, is on a mission to serve as the 'voice of education.' Finger was appointed to the Governing Board of the American Assocation of School Administrators by members of the Illinois AASA. She is among the 37 new members of the board who will serve a three year term to both represent their home state and report on the work of the Association to their home state affiliate. "We're really the political advocacy for the state and federal, as well as local law-making efforts," Finger said. It's something she is somewhat familiar with. District 127 students collected food along with the Grayslake Lions Club to ensure that those in need can still have a hearty Thanksgiving meal.
Grayslake Central defeated Marian Central 3-1 for their first Regional Title since District 127 split into two high schools.
Winning a regional title was the highlight of the Grayslake Central Rams soccer season. The last time the Rams won a soccer regional title was in 2006. That team had repeated as Regional Champs and made it to the Sweet 16 before losing 4-3 in double overtime to Warren. "Our strength of our schedule this year was really, really hard," said Head Coach Mike McCaulou. "All of those tough games prepared us for the playoffs. We played Cary Grove, Crystal Lake South, Round Lake, Zion Benton, Huntley and ended with Libertyville. These are all bigger schools than us and the kids know that we play such a demanding schedule to prepare for the post season." With 30 minutes of scoreless ball under their belt, the Rams struck first with Phil Longenecker…
A parent and a former GNHS basketball player raised concerns about tactics used by the Grayslake North head basketball coach.
“The coach is a bully,” parent Marybeth DeLaMar said of Grayslake North head varsity basketball coach Todd Grunloh. She addressed District 127 board members during the May 26 meeting. DeLaMar has been a resident of Grayslake for 15 years and has three children who have graduated from Grayslake High Schools, one attended Central and the others North; both of her children at North had Grunloh as their coach. DeLaMar also has four other children who have yet to attend North. She said she has heard Grunloh speak down to the players, saying things like, “Why did you do that? Are you retarded?” “This has happened year in and year out and it’s getting progressively worse. I want professional development from him. We need to do that with our …
