Local students earn top honors for the 2012-2013 winter term.
The following area students were named to the Dean's list at Augustana College in Rock Island for the 2012-13 winter term. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term. Novak Fosters Dogs at Augustana College On many college campuses you don't typically see dogs attending class with their handlers, but at Augustana College, in Rock Island, it has become a fairly common sight and a source of pride. Viking Pups is a service, facility and therapy dog training club at Augustana. The one-year-old club fosters, socializes and trains dogs on campus in partnership with the Quad Cities Canine Assistance Network Inc. (QC CAN). The Viking Pups program is designed to take dogs from puppyhood to placement as a service dog. With a professor's approval, a dog can go to classes with a student, and dogs are commonly seen in the library, dining halls and at sporting events. Viking Pups has been successful in recruiting …

Brianne Ratkovich, a Business Administration major from Grayslake, graduated in the Dec. 15, 2012 commencement ceremony held at University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Williams Fieldhouse. This December graduation was the largest fall graduation in UW-Platteville's history with 602 graduate and undergraduate students participating in the ceremonies. Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN, named Meaghan Daly to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester. Meaghan is the daughter of Michael and Mary Daly of Grayslake. The University of St. Francis has named Lauren Bryson of Grayslake to its dean's honor list for the Fall 2012 semester.
