Board president Ray Millington removed a public discussion of e-mails involved in litigation from Wednesday's meeting agenda.
An updated agenda presented at Wednesday’s District 46 board meeting included an item under “Unfinished Business” calling for public discussion and a vote on a request to release controversial e-mails at the center of an investigation into alleged ethics violations committed during the spring elections. No such discussion would be had. Court complaint filed by Lennie Jarratt seeks an injunction to force D46 to comply with FOIA requests.
A quest for information and accountability regarding ethics violations allegedly committed during the spring 2011 elections in Grayslake School District 46 continues. Taxpayer watchdog Lennie Jarratt, who also serves as chairman of the Lake County Tea Party, filed a formal complaint with the Lake County Circuit Court seeking an injunction to force the school district to comply with the Freedom of Information Act and release certain requested public documents and e-mails. A summons was served Saturday to school board president Ray Millington at district offices. Taxpayers ultimately pay the price for full disclosure.
As defined by Wikipedia, the “Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a federal freedom of information law that allows for the full or partial disclosure of previously unreleased information and documents controlled by the United States Government.” On a local level, that includes school districts, which are funded by the state. Read any recent Grayslake school district news headlines, and you will know that District 46 has been required to respond to multiple FOIA requests, from a variety of sources.
