Newsletter Complaint Rejected by State Board of Elections

Avon Township Trustees Bill McNeill and Douglas Raul Williams alleged that the Avon Action slate used taxpayer money to print and mail a political mailing.

The complaint filed against the Avon Action slate by Avon Township Trustees Bill McNeill and Douglas Raul Williams, alleging that the Avon Action slate used taxpayer money to print and mail a political mailing, was rejected by the Illinois State Board of Elections Thursday. At the hearing Thursday afternoon, a hearing officer recommended "that the board find the complaint was not filed on justifiable grounds and no further action be taken," according to the hearing officer's recommendation letter. "Since Williams can't run against my record, he's running on lies," said Township Supervisor Lisa Rusch, who was named in the complaint with Clerk Elona Hamilton, Assessor Chris Ditton and Highway Commissioner Tom Brust. Douglas, As someone who invests the time exercising all due diligence to avoid receiving these unwanted solicitations, it’s disappointing to know there is no amount of time and effort I can invest into ending political solicitation calls. Nineteen people are seeking eight seats in Avon Township in the April 9 election. Read their profiles below.

Voters will select eight individuals for various Avon Township posts from a pool of 19 candidates in the April 9 election. The terms of all township officials expire in 2013, including the supervisor, assessor, clerk, highway commissioner, and four trustees. Two parties and one independent slate have filed to run for Avon Township elected positions. Grayslake Patch sent candidate questionnaires to all 19 contenders. Thursday's Grayslake Chamber of Commerce luncheon will feature candidates vying for Avon Township Supervisor in the April 9 consolidated election.
