Area voters reported little to no wait at polling places for the April 9 local election.
On April 9, just 17.62 percent of voters made it out to the polls in Lake County to vote in the this year's consolidated election, according to the Lake County Clerk's website. Voter turnout in Tuesday's consolidated election was higher in suburban Cook and McHenry counties, but it was an average turnout for a local election in Lake County. Since 2005, turnout in Lake County has ranged from as low as 15.04 percent of voters casting their ballot in 2011 to as high as 21.90 percent voting in 2009, according to the elections results archive from the Lake County Clerk's website. They'll be joined by newcomers Ray Larson and Timothy Powell. The results do include early voting and vote by mail ballots, but they do not include provisional or late-arriving vote by mail ballots. The shenanigans of the Avon Action slate demands public attention; Lisa Rusch appointing herself as Temporary Supervisor, then appointing her slate candidate to Clerk, bullying a candidate off the ballot and the” kangaroo court” held to address Douglas Williams' homeowner’s exemption issue are examples. Though posting a “special meeting” on a late Saturday afternoon for Monday evening is “legal,” it gives residents little notice. So much for transparency! Now, soon before Election Day, a newsletter is mailed to township residents that focuses solely on individuals who are part of the Avon Action slate! Candidate Rusch claims she is an advocate for less government spending, but spent tax dollars to produce political propaganda for the Avon …

"This (is a) blatant misuse of taxpayers' money," said Avon Township Trustee Bill McNeill.
Avon Township Trustees Bill McNeill and Douglas Raul Williams have filed a complaint with the Illinois State Board of Elections, alleging that the Avon Action slate has violated the campaign disclosure act in regard to a recently-mailed Avon Township newsletter. In a press release, the two trustees allege that Avon Action—including Township Supervisor Lisa Rusch, Clerk Elona Hamilton, Assessor Chris Ditton and Highway Commissioner Tom Brust, who are all named in the complaint—used taxpayer money to print and mail a political mailing. What better time to learn about it, then being right there helping with the campaign of their choice. It instills something that we would hope to do with adults.
