New floral business grows from Entwined.
Less than a month after closing Entwined Floral in downtown Grayslake, Kelly Chase and Kate Price have opened a new business venture just down the street—The Bloom Room, at 146 Center. "We love our quaint new location! It provides us with enough space to concentrate on what we do best—floral arrangements," said owner Kelly Chase in a Patch announcement posted Thursday. “We are so happy to still be able to serve the Grayslake area. It is such great town to do business in." The Bloom Room specializes in rustic chic, with items that created out of recycled products. "We love to repurpose old items into something new and different," said partner Kate Rice. The Bloom Room is open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m…

Another victim of the economy, Entwined Floral announces it is closing after three years in downtown Grayslake.
A popular downtown Grayslake florist and gift shop, Eventually Entwined, has announced it will close at the end of this month, after being open at 122 Center Street for about three years. "It's just the economy, big box competition for floral businesses, rent too high," Rice told Patch. "We might carry on, possibly open a new location. We just don't know yet." Entwined, which was named one of three finalist in the Patch 2012 Readers' Choice, was interviewed by Patch last month for a Small Business Saturday feature, Businesses in Grayslake's Downtown are Striving to Thrive. Entwined's Facebook page announced the …

With 60 businesses in the downtown area, Grayslake’s merchants share their secrets to weathering a tough economy.
From flowers and gifts to books and bicycles, nestled between Lake Street and the railroad tracks in downtown Grayslake, you’ll find a few dozen merchants who are keeping afloat in this tough economy. “It’s hard but it’s worth it,” said Kelly Chase, owner of Entwined at 122 Center Street. The shop has been at its current location for three years, when Chase and her partner Kate Rice purchased the former Barb’s Florist and moved it from around the corner. “We felt we really needed to be more visible to the community,” she said. Next door is This Old Book, a used book shop owned by Dick Navarre. He opened the business 11 years ago after retiring from hospital management. The shop is the only used book store in town. Navarre said many of his …

Thank Hal. Jen, we bought Barbs and renamed it Entwined. There were four of us ladies. Two of the ladies left leaving Kate and I. Then along came another another partner with big dreams for th company. Dreams of a much bigger plan of event decorating, catering and flowers. Eventfully Entwined was born from that. Things didn't go as planned and that partner then left. Kate and I thought we would …   more ›
