Tips to get the kids active this summer with a fun family bike ride
Whether you are tackling a new trail or just heading out for ice cream, a family bike ride is the perfect way to get exercise and spend time together. Biking is a great alternative to the pool on those super hot days, too. But, what I love most about a family bike ride is that you can plan an outing with kids of any age. With teens you can plan some long trail rides to discover new places and explore some great nature trails. They can handle overnight biking trips or enter week-long biking events like Ragbrai, in Iowa. My brother-in-law and nephew really look forward to this biking event and their time bonding together every year. With kids ages 6-10, make your outings really enjoyable like heading to the park for a picnic or some fun …

How to create a plan to have the most fun this summer with your family, so you don't miss a thing.
Summer has just started, but I'm already worried about it being over. The time goes by way too fast. I know I think I have all the time in the world to hit some of our family fun ideas or invite friends over but suddenly you look at the calendar and it's booked up. I don't know if this has happened to you but I've been bummed in the past when I didn’t get the kids to the Zoo, or get tickets to a popular kids concert, or get the bikes out enough to justify the space they take up in the garage. Summer was over and we missed out on some opportunities to enjoy it. Well, never again! Last summer our family started a Family Summer Fun Plan or a Summer Bucket List and it has made planning and scheduling our family fun a whole lot easier. We …

When Friday night rolls around, my husband and I are usually exhausted. We want to do something fun with the kids but we don't have a lot of time and energy. Many nights we just lay on the couch and watch a movie together. While this is a fun way to spend time together, I found that with a little creativity and planning, you can amp up your movie night to make it even more special. Most of these ideas use items you already have in your house, which makes it easy for Mom and Dad. Here's how to be the most fun Mom on the block with these simple tips on making Movie Night the most anticipated night of the week. 1. Shake up the seating arrangements! Make the movie watching experience even more fun by shaking up the way you watch it. If you …

Sue Kirchner is a family fun coach and weekly contributor to Patch.com. She created ChocolateCakeClub.com and ChocolateCakeMoments.com both sites dedicated to helping busy families have more fun together. Sue and her family fun ideas have been featured on TV, newspapers, magazines, and blogs. This year, instead of focusing on self improvement, I wanted to work with my husband and kids to create resolutions to improve the "health" of our family. Last year was a hard one for our family and I really wanted to work on a plan to strengthen the family bond by spending more quality time together, improving our relationships, and most importantly, having more fun. We all know it's hard to make and stick to resolutions so I did some research …
